DANIEL (DAN) KUNESKY
IVAN KUNESKY BRIDLE

Dad's father Ivan (Iwan) won this bridle with a 10 cent raffle ticket that he bought in the Hotel Bar in Hillcrest in 1925. The bridle was hand-made by an inmate of the Lethbridge prison. We've been told that a bridle of this quality would have taken a year or more to make and was likely raffled off to help support the prisoner's family.

We would like to find out more about it and Dad would like it to be displayed or used. We've been told that it is of very good quality and could fetch $2000 to $3000 or more at auction. He thought it would be best in a museum if it could be displayed but I was told by the institutions I contacted that there would be no guarantee of that. The bulk of their collections are stored and never seen by the public.

The bridle is beautifully made. Dad played with it when he was 4 or 5. It has never used and has been stored out of the sun for most of its 85+ years. If you can help fill in any information, please contact Dawn Kunesky: info@woolsey.ca
